What does an estate sale involve?

In most cases estate sale liquidation will have professionals coming into your home and accessing your project. After you decide who to hire they should go through all the items, clean, organize, research and price all items, market, and sell your items from either your home or an agreed upon location for the sale. After the sale they will send you a check that comes minus the agreed upon percentage.

How do I know if I an estate sale is right for me?

When you are selling enough items to fill a small home or apartment or even a storage unit, you have enough for an estate sale.

How do I choose what company is right for me?

Interview different companies to have your sale, try to remember they will be handling you or your loved ones personal belongings. Do you feel safe to hire them? Check licenses, references prior to making your decision. Review the sale contract and make sure that it works for your needs.

How long does the process take?

It can take as little as a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on your project size and the availability you have for the company to have access in order to set up.

What am I responsible for during the sale?

The company is doing the work for you. You will review the contracts ahead of time and you will make sure that the company has access to the home where the sale will be located in order to conduct the business. Other than that you are free from the burden.

How will I know what is sold and for how much?

The company should give a detailed inventory and can show you what sold and for how much.

What happens if items like money, or personal items like the love letters your dad wrote your mom are found?

A reputable company will set these items aside and give them to you. Nothing will be sold without your permission.

How does the company get paid?

The company works on commission. The commission amount is discussed beforehand and agreed upon. The amount agreed upon is all that they will receive.

What if I decide I want to keep something out of the sale?

We prefer that you take all items out that you and your family prefer to keep before we arrive. If something comes up though that you did not realize you left in the sale please feel free to speak with the company and we can work to remove it from the inventory count.

What is I decide that I want to cancel the sale after the company has worked on it?

We do have items in our contracts that will explain charges that can occur for our staff, advertising and so forth. We will need these charges paid for as per terms of the contract.

What if I have something very valuable such as art or jewelry but do not know what it is worth?

The company can appraise these items or if it is out of their scope will take the time for you to go and get these items appraised on your behalf and provide you something to show that appraisal.
